Prompt release of funds facilitates reconstruction

Now that the $904 million package for Puerto Rico's recovery was signed into law, it is up to local and federal authorities to ensure the prompt release of funds to rebuild areas that are still devastated almost two years after Hurricane María hit the island.

The government of Puerto Rico has the responsibility to ensure that these new funds will be distributed under strict compliance and accountability processes. The recently signed law brings funds to the nearly $20 billion estimated for the Puerto Rican reconstruction process. The prompt release of funds requires mutual cooperation between the two governments in order to comply with the parameters set by the law.
