Hike in El Yunque Tropical Forest

If you have a full day before or after the Bad Bunny concert, you shouldn't miss visiting El Yunque in Río Grande. It is the only tropical rainforest in the United States Forest Service. It rains almost every day, hence its greenery, cooler temperature, humidity, and the crystal-clear, cold waters of its rivers, pools, and waterfalls. If you are staying in the metropolitan area, keep in mind it's about 45 minutes from San Juan. Set aside at least half a day. It is advisable to arrange your transportation and visit in advance, preferably with a tour service. To enjoy El Portal, the Visitor Center with shops, exhibits, and a short documentary narrated by Oscar-winning Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro, you don't need a reservation. But to explore the trails and the main road of the forest, you must book at recreation.gov. Pack your backpack with water, snacks, a change of clothes, and comfortable shoes.

Lunch by the sea at the Luquillo kiosks

Since you are in Río Grande, you can continue to Luquillo, where you will find some of the best beaches on the island: La Monserrate beach (also known as Luquillo Beach), Playa Azul, La Pared, and Playa Fortuna. Just behind La Monserrate are the famous Luquillo kiosks (PR-3 Calle Marginal), a must-stop for locals and tourists. The gastronomic offer is varied, with an emphasis on seafood, fish, and Creole food. You will also find options like arepas, Peruvian food, hamburgers, and pizza. Many places offer cocktails, live music, and souvenir sales. They open around noon and some until 10:00 p.m.

Beach morning in Piñones

There's no better way to start the day than with salt water. Take an Uber to Piñones and choose between La Pocita (ideal for calm waters) or a more open beach if you prefer waves. On your way back, stop at a kiosk for a crab empanadilla or a bacalaíto with a cold beer.
