On July 25, Cecilia Acosta was elected as the new Miss Earth Puerto Rico 2025, after the other Miss Earth Puerto Rico 2025 title holder, Valeria Meléndez Oyola, resigned on July 8 due to a “lack of tools to worthily represent Puerto Rico”.
Today, Sunday, like a story that repeats itself, in less than two months, Acosta issued an official communication in which she made known the reasons for her resignation, which was motivated by situations that prevent her from assuming her responsibility.
“With a heart full of gratitude, I address all of you to express my most sincere thanks to the Miss Earth Puerto Rico Organization and its director, for the trust and the opportunity to represent my island. Today I announce my resignation from the title of Miss Earth Puerto Rico 2025. This was not a decision taken lightly, but motivated by situations that prevent me from assuming the responsibility with the commitment and dedication that Puerto Rico deserves. My love for my island and my support for the causes that I am passionate about remain intact. I trust that our paths will cross again, always carrying Puerto Rico on high. With love and gratitude," Acosta signed.
This afternoon, the director of the local Miss Earth franchise, Joe Ahmed, reposted Acosta’s statement through a story on his personal Instagram account in which he wrote: “you will always be part of our family.”
While in the stories of @missearthepr replied to the same statement with the following message: “We will always support our beautiful queen and she will always be part of MEPR Family.”
Acosta was expected to represent Puerto Rico in the international competition, to be held next year.
In the case of former queen Meléndez Oyola, Ahmed denied the allegations she made and said that “Miss Earth Puerto Rico has been characterized by providing the necessary tools for the Puerto Rican delegates to stand out in the international pageant.
