After becoming the first Puerto Rican to dive under the Antarctic ice, Paola Santiago Padua knew she had to repeat the feat, but accompanied by the monostar. Among the greenery of the floating seaweed and the inconceivable cold, the patriotic symbol -with its radiant sky-blue color set in pristine waters- transported to the southernmost continent of the Earth more than a dozen Puerto Ricans; family members, collaborators and mentors of the young scientist, who followed her -with their signatures on the flag- during a moment that made her feel “like a little girl”.
