Johnny Méndez Will Only Give Congress a Year

He believes that if a bill is not promoted in 2017 to admit the Island as a state, it should be legislated locally

WASHINGTON – If in a year Congress hasn't introduced a bill to offer Puerto Rico direct admission as a state of the United States, the next New Progressive Party (NPP) government should legislate a pro-statehood referendum in San Juan, according to Johnny Méndez, Speaker-elect of the Island's House of Representatives.
