Washington D.C. - U.S. Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon, defended before Congress on Tuesday a 15.3% budget cut to her department, even though her plan has drawn bipartisan criticism, including for proposing the elimination of the TRIO and GEAR UP programs, which aim to encourage low-income students to attend college.
