Beyond its mogote hills and caves, Puerto Rico’s karst region is one of the most important natural areas in the archipelago: a limestone system that stores groundwater, protects unique ecosystems, and serves as habitat for plant and animal species, including some of the archipelago’s most iconic—and endangered—wildlife.
