Responding to questions from El Nuevo Día, José Miguel Pérez, executive director of the commissions of the Puerto Rico Department of Recreation and Sports (DRD), reacted Friday to a USA Today report alleging that jockey brothers José Luis Ortiz and Irad Ortiz, Jr., as well as Major League Baseball (MLB) player Edwin “Sugar” Díaz, were linked to illegal cockfighting in Puerto Rico, saying there is “a lot of misinformation” about the scope of the federal law passed in 2018 banning the practice in the United States and its territories.
