From an incubator in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Alexa Valedón Rodríguez squeezed her mother Yamila Rodríguez García’s finger to let her know she was fighting for her life after being born at 29 weeks of gestation with multiple medical complications that led to a lengthy stay at Ashford Hospital in San Juan.
