Today, some animals have characteristics that are very different from those of their ancestors. For example, the ancestors of penguins were once able to fly, but today they are adapted for swimming and fishing. In contrast to the invasive green iguanas found throughout Puerto Rico, which feed on terrestrial plants, in the Galápagos Islands (Ecuador) there are iguanas that swim in the ocean to forage for and eat algae.
