Starting this Wednesday, the Puerto Rico Energy Bureau (PREB) will hold public hearings aimed at establishing the new base rate for the electric system, a procedure that has not been done for eight years and that is anticipated to result in a permanent increase in the price customers pay for infrastructure maintenance tasks, ranging from street lighting poles, cables and transmission towers to the condition of old generation plants.
