While it is estimated that more than 90 countries - from Rwanda to Panama - have strengthened their policies against single-use plastics and plastic bags, Puerto Rico is moving in the opposite direction by proposing to dismantle laws that, according to international and local evidence, contribute to reducing pollution and changing consumption habits. As part of International Mother Earth Day, environmental leaders urged the Legislature to maintain and reinforce current public policy to prevent more waste from reaching landfills, many of which are on the brink.
