Governor Pedro Pierluisi said he was confident Congress will approve the bill proposing a federal plebiscite between statehood, independence, and free association but stressed that it is vital to continue efforts on the island and in Washington D.C. He also urged Democrats to contact Republicans and convince them to vote in favor of the measure.
